About me

Gurpreet joined UWE in July 2018 as the Director of the Aldridge Institute for Enterprise and Entrepreneurship, a partnership between Bristol Business School and the Aldridge Foundation with the vision to be internationally renowned for research and initiatives that change the futures of young people, shapes the future of education policy and enables a more successful economy.

Prior to this, he was Director of Research, Enterprise and Innovation at London South Bank University, and CEO of South Bank University Enterprises Ltd where his main responsibilities included the strategic and day-to-day operations for the university's research and enterprise activities. He joined LSBU in September 2014 and in a relatively short period of time established an award-winning research and enterprise centre. The success was marked by an award and recognition for LSBU's Clarence Centre as an Outstanding centre for Enterprise and Innovation worldwide and more recently the centre being ranked second in the UK, fourth in Europe and fifteenth globally, for innovative business development, in a new report by UBI Global World Rankings. Under his leadership LSBU's enterprise learning provision has been highly commended and LSBU successfully secured the crown as The Times Higher Award for Entrepreneurial University of the Year in 2016.

Gurpreet joined LSBU from University College, London (UCL) where he served as Deputy Director for UCL Advances with strategic oversight of enterprise and small business engagement activities. Previously he worked at University of Birmingham where he spent two years designing and delivering postgraduate and graduate enterprise programmes and held operational responsibility for the enterprise team.

Previous to that Gurpreet spent six years at Birmingham City University supporting Staff and Student Enterprise; running a Mentoring Programme for undergraduate students and working closely with Advantage West Midlands on the Birmingham Science City programme in the area of Digital Media and ICT – investing over £2m in flagship Digital Demonstrator projects.
