Area of expertise

To date I've had 48 books of fiction and non-fiction published, and I've edited many others. I specialise in writing for children and teenagers, but I've also written a novel for adults, as well as articles and reviews for newspapers including the Guardian, Express and Sunday Express, and for Royal Opera House publications. I've worked as an editor at Penguin, and as both an editor and in-house writer at Usborne Publishing. In addition, I've given talks at numerous literary festivals, including the Hay Festival, the Edinburgh International Book Festival, the Cheltenham Literary Festival, and the Chalke Valley History Festival. I'm an Associate Fellow of the Royal Literary Fund, and spent two years as the RLF Writing Fellow at UWE. I'm also a qualified Benesh Dance Notator and worked in that capacity for three years with the Royal Ballet.
