About me
Helen McGloin is a Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering and a part-time PhD researcher at the Bristol Robotics Laboratory. Her doctoral research focuses on environmental sustainability in the robotics industry, including e-waste, routes to reuse and repurposing, and barriers to implementing circular economy principles in industrial and consumer robotics.
Helen is a Chartered Engineer (CEng) with eight years of industrial experience in manufacturing engineering, specialising in automation and additive manufacturing. Prior to academia, she led multi-million-pound projects introducing advanced manufacturing technologies into aerospace production environments.
She teaches on manufacturing-focused modules, including Engineering Experimentation and Engineering Principles 1, and holds Associate Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA). Her PhD is part of the EPSRC FARSCOPE Centre for Doctoral Training, jointly delivered by the University of Bristol and the University of the West of England.
