About me

I graduated from the University of Bristol with first class honours in Economics and Accounting in 1984.

I qualified as an ICAEW Chartered Accountant (ACA) in 1986 becoming a FCA some years later. I trained with Price Waterhouse (now PwC) in Bristol gaining experience in both audit and insolvency. I was office tutor for one year delivering in-house auditing courses. I also worked part time at the University of Bristol, teaching for them when they had a shortage of staff.

In 1989 I joined CFL - a private sector organisation teaching amongst others ICAEW students. CFL joined with ATC which later merged into Financial Training which is now known as Kaplan.

I moved into an editorial role writing ACA study materials which ended up as the role I held with ICAEW for a number of years.

I joined UWE in 2005 as a senior lecturer specialising in financial management and managment accounting.

Alongside my UWE role I have worked for the ICAEW as an examiner for over 20 years. I have been 'reponsible' for the success (or otherwise!) of hundreds of thousands of students studying their professional exams for the papers I have written, moderated and marked.

Outside of UWE I have been Chair of Governors at a junior school and am currently a member of the Leaf Trust.

In 2025 I made the decision to semi-retire so you'll only see me around Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday morning.

I don't have formal office hours as they inevitably clash with student timetables. if you'd like to meet, email me and we can set up a convenient time.
