About me

Employed by the University of the West of England since 1999, I originally worked as a part time Visiting Lecturer, giving seminars and lectures and running workshops.  However I was mainly involved with practical sessions, often involving the measuring and monitoring of human physiology.

I have also worked on research projects in the department, including organising, conducting and analysing both a computer based multitasking stress test, measuring physiological responses (DISS, Defined Intensity Stressor Simulation), and a Biochemical and Psychophysiological Evaluation of the Trier Social Stress Test. The latter tested a model of moderate stress induction for Quest International (a subsidiary of ICI). Both tests also involved subjective measurements of changes in arousal.

In studies of non-hypnotic therapies in primary insomnia I have used actiwatches to monitor levels of activity and I held a post as a research associate in an investigation into the impact of the New Bristol Children's Hospital on parents, patients, nurses and other staff.

Since 2008 I have worked as the Laboratory Manager & Technical Team Leader for Psychology at UWE. This involves managing the psychology laboratories and the psychology technical team to ensure all students and staff receive the highest level of support both in practical classes and when conducting research.
