About me
Dr Jen Pearson is an NIHR Advanced Clinical and Practitioner Academic Fellow whose research focuses on managing chronic pain in Rheumatology, particularly Fibromyalgia. Dr Pearson has successfully led several research projects, which include mapping the techniques used within the Fibromyalgia Self-management Programme (FSMP) to facilitate behaviour change. She conducted a feasibility Randomised Controlled Trial (RCT) of the FSMP in a community setting (FALCON). She has also contributed to designing and evaluating telehealth and digital interventions. Her current research focuses on adapting the FSMP for online use.
Her research contributions have been recognised and published in peer-reviewed journals, including BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders, Physiotherapy, Musculoskeletal Care, British Medical Bulletin, Journal of Medical Internet Research Protocols, BMC Health Services Research, and Qualitative Health Research. Additionally, she actively participates in the peer-review process for several academic journals, ensuring the quality and rigour of scientific publications.
In addition to her research role, Dr Pearson also holds the co-chair position at the Council for Allied Health Professions Research (CAHPR) in the South West. In this capacity, she actively fosters research engagement and mentorship among Allied Health Professionals (AHPs), promoting collaboration, supporting research and academic career development, facilitating research delivery, and building research capacity.
Area of expertise
Jennifer obtained her BSc and MSc at the University of Northumbria at Newcastle. She completed her PhD at Keele University which explored the acceptability and implementation of PhysioDirect from multiple perspectives. Jennifer has expertise in mixed methods research, and qualitative research methods including; in-depth interviews, think aloud interviews, focus groups, thematic and Framework analysis. Jennifer is also a HCPC registered Chartered Physiotherapist. She is currently the co-leader of the Council for Allied Health Professions Research (CAHPR) in the South West.
