About me

I am a qualified Clinical Psychologist (HCPC registered) with clinical experience working in an adult burns unit. I am currently writing up my PhD thesis about the development of www.supportingchildrenwithburns.co.uk whilst working part time in a diabetes service.

Supporting Children with Burns is a website, designed with parents, carers and professionals, to provide psychosocial support to parents and carers of burn-injured children.
My Ph.D. is supervised by Professor Diana Harcourt, Dr Heidi Williamson and Dr Lisa Williams.

A bit more about me...

I completed an undergraduate degree in Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience in 2006 and a master's degree in Psychological Research Methods in 2007, both at the University of Nottingham. I then went on to work as a Research Associate in the School of Health Science (then Nursing, Midwifery and Physiotherapy) at Nottingham, conducting research into effects of therapeutic recreation upon the psychosocial wellbeing of children with cancer and their siblings.

Between 2009 and 2010, I worked as an Assistant Psychologist in Queen's Medical Centre (Nottingham). One role involved co-ordinating a national study into the self-reported quality of life of children and young people with chronic kidney disease, the other was working on an RCT examining the effectiveness of school-based programmes in the prevention of depressive symptoms for high-risk adolescents.

I began my doctoral training in Clinical Psychology at the University of Sheffield in 2010 and continued my research into the quality of life and attitudes towards illness of children with chronic kidney disease. Since completing my training, I have worked as the Clinical Psychologist within burns, bariatric surgery, termination of pregnancy, and diabetes services.

Area of expertise

Clinical Psychology; Psychosocial Burns Care; Bariatric Surgery; Termination of Pregnancy
