About me
I'm a science journalist, author and broadcaster, with two decades of experience working in the media industry.
I'm the former Editor of BBC Science Focus magazine. I've created courses for New Scientist, edited digital issues for Sky at Night for Apple News, and written for BBC Wildlife, Countryfile, History Revealed, as well as Nature, Geographical and ClientEarth. I've also written a number of popular science books: Conceivable (Bloomsbury, 2020), The Little Book of Big Explorations (Michael O'Mara Books, 2019), The World's Great Wonders (Lonely Planet, 2014), 100 Ideas that Changed the World (BBC, 2011).
I've presented on BBC Costing the Earth, BBC Points West and the BBC Headsqueeze, as well as SciTech Voyager for TRT World.
Through my time as a journalist, I've interviewed everyone from David Attenborough to Helen Sharman to Elon Musk.
I've also worked in copywriting / marketing / PR for content agency Specialist UK / Fleishmann Hillard, working with brands such as Specsavers, Peugeot, Siemens and Dulux.

At UWE I am a lecturer on the Culture, Media and Creative Industries degree. I have over five years’ experience delivering high-quality teaching at leading institutions (UWE, Cardiff Met, Cardiff University, the University of Plymouth and the University of Brighton), across undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in journalism, PR, and communications. This includes module leading, delivering lectures, seminars, tutorials, workshops, marking and dissertation supervision.
Area of expertise
I have a 1st class BSc in Natural Sciences from the University of Birmingham, and a MSc in Science Communication from Imperial College, London.
I'm interested in doing research on how different media can be used to communicate environmental and sustainability issues in primary education.
