About me

I am a Lecturer in Structural Engineering in the School of Engineering at UWE Bristol. I obtained my MEng in Civil Engineering from the University of Edinburgh and my PhD in Structural Engineering from Imperial College London. Prior to joining UWE Bristol, I worked as a Research Fellow and Teaching Fellow at the University of Birmingham, and later as a Research Fellow at the University of Warwick.

My research combines computational modelling, nonlinear structural analysis and experimentation to improve structural performance, safety and efficiency. I am particularly interested in structural optimisation, stability and composite structures. Increasingly, I am exploring how data-driven methods such as machine learning and AI-assisted workflows can accelerate simulation, improve parameter calibration, and support rapid design decision-making while remaining grounded in mechanics and experimental evidence. I collaborate with industry to translate these advances into design-oriented tools and guidance.

Area of expertise

  • Steel and Composite structures
  • Nonlinear mechanics and stabilities
  • Structural optimisation and computational mechanics
  • Automated finite element modelling
