About me
As a cancer nurse of over 20 years, I have been dedicated to improving the lives of those affected by cancer through research, education, clinical practice and workforce development.
My research interests include how best to support people to live well after cancer, particularly those living with chronic pain. I completed a Macmillan Cancer Support and UWE funded PhD in January 2024 into the experiences of people living with chronic pain after cancer. I am currently taking the proposed clinical recommendations forward in a Launching Fellowship funded by the Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG) Integrated Care Board (ICB). My PhD research was awarded the UK Oncology Nursing Society (UKONS) Past Presidents Best Poster Award in 2023. I am a member of UWE's Centre for Health and Clinical Research and Supportive, Palliative and End of Life Care research theme and regularly work with collaborators across the NHS and cancer charity organisations.
I am passionate about the creation and evaluation of impactful cancer education to improve clinical practice and enable workforce development. In 2024, Advance HE awarded me a National Teaching Fellowship in recognition of my outstanding impact on student outcomes and the teaching profession in higher education. I am on the Steering Committee for the Aspirant Cancer Career and Education Development Programme (ACCEND) and co-chair the pre-registration workstream. I am the Programme Lead for the PG Cert in Cancer Care and led the team to win a UWE VC Staff Changemaker Award in 2024. In 2023, I led the development of the Foundations of Cancer Care, a freely available cancer care e-learning programme hosted on the NHS Learning Hub. This work contributed to a Health Service Journal award for Workforce Initiative of the Year in 2024.
