About me

I am a Senior Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD) Practitioner, working in the Dyslexia and SpLD Service, Access West of England

I work with students to explore whether they have SpLD, through screening and diagnostic assessments.  I also support students who are diagnosed with SpLD (such as dyslexia, dyspraxia or ADHD) through specialist one-to-one study skills tuition.  To raise staff awareness about SpLD, I run staff training sessions (through the Learning Development Centre and through more bespoke sessions to teams).

Before starting at UWE, I worked in Further Education and Adult Community Education, beginning my teaching career as a volunteer adult literacy tutor in 1992.  I am passionate about empowering individuals to achieve their potential through education. I value diversity and inclusive practice.

I am a member of the Professional Association of Teachers of Students with SpLDs (PATOSS) and hold an Assessment Practicing Certificate.

I am interested in facilitating the use of Assistive Technologies in exams (as Reasonable Adjustments) and  I am a member of the Academic Literacy Forum.
