About me
Kat works in two roles at UWE Bristol. She is currently serving as Interim Head of Circular Economy and Responsible Consumption alongside Jade Shih, where she is helping lead the university’s efforts to embed circular economy principles across campus operations, reduce waste, and support responsible consumption. In this role, she is job sharing with Jade Shih while Joanna Dainton is on maternity leave.
Kat also supports the School of Engineering’s Inspire Sustainability Team, aiming to bridge the UK’s green skills gap by supporting underrepresented communities into green careers. Her work is rooted in the principles of a just transition—ensuring that the shift to a greener economy is fair, inclusive, and accessible to all.
In addition, Kat organises and coordinates UWE Bristol’s monthly repair café—a hands-on sustainability initiative where students, staff, community members, and industry volunteers come together to fix broken items for free, keeping them out of landfill and promoting a culture of reuse.
She holds a BSc in Business Management from the Munich University of Applied Sciences.
Growing up in Germany’s Black Forest, a region renowned for its natural beauty, sparked her deep interest in environmental and sustainability issues—a passion that continues to drive her work today.
Area of expertise
Kat’s work focuses on making sustainability practical, inclusive, and people-centred. She specialises in circular economy approaches, community engagement, and behaviour change—helping individuals and institutions reduce waste and promote reuse. A strong advocate for a just transition, Kat is committed to ensuring that the shift to a greener future is fair and accessible to all, especially underrepresented communities. Whether through organising repair cafés or supporting green careers, her work aims to make climate action something everyone can be part of.
