About me

Kathy Brown is a senior lecturer in law at UWE, Bristol and is module leader for Law of Contract, a compulsory Level 1 module and Law in Action, a Level 3 placement-dissertation module. She is a Board member of a local multi-academy trust, ETAT, and is the chair of their Education, Improvement and Standards Committee.  She is a member of the Education Steering Group of a UK charity called Justice Defenders, which provides legal education to prisoners in East Africa.  Kathy also works as a volunteer selector for VSO and coach for high impact families in North Somerset.

Kathy has been teaching in further and higher education for nearly 30 years.  At all times she has had a clear focus on inclusive educational practice, supported by her empirical doctoral research into special educational needs law in schools and the later introduction of disability law to all educational settings.  Kathy is a UWE award-winning university teacher, nominated by students.  This award was borne out of her commitment to providing an excellent inclusive educational experience for all students, both inside and outside of the classroom.  Kathy's award as a Senior Fellow of the HEA in 2016, the first to achieve this within Bristol Law School, reflected her experience as a programme leader and her career-long approach as an authentic educational inclusionist.
