About me

I arrived at UWE, Bristol in 2001 as a Senior Lecturer in Politics (specialising in British Politics and Research Methods) and during my time here I have held a number of leadership roles in teaching, learning and student experience.  After a short stint as Head of Department, I became Associate Dean for Teaching and Learning in 2011 in ACE.

I completed a PhD in electoral politics (1996) and this continued my research in areas focusing on small parties, women and representation, and youth political engagement. In addition I have published textbooks for students of Politics and International Relations.  My knowledge of electoral politics has enabled me to be a media commentator on local and national elections for radio and TV.

My passion for the discipline of Politics within higher education has pushed me to work to develop networks as an external examiner, benchmark adviser, and peer reviewer for publishers. I was an Executive member of the Political Studies Association (2005-2014).

As an Associate Dean in a large and diverse faculty, I work with a collaborative and aspirational ethos to ensure that we have a consistent and high standard of student experience, which enables graduates to excel – regardless of their background.

Working in the leadership team for Arts, Creative Industries and Education is both challenging and rewarding, and a creative city such as Bristol as the backdrop is inspiring for everyone involved in our student experience.
