About me

I am a Senior Lecturer in Civil Engineering, a member of the Centre for Transport and Society, and a member of the Civil Engineering programme leadership team. As Neurodiversity Academic Lead of the School of Engineering, I coordinate the academic support for neurodivergent engineering students and advocate on their behalf at the school level.

Research

I have over 20 years of experience in research and consulting in the transport field. My research focuses on developing user-centred, sustainable solutions in transport engineering. Examples of past projects include:

  • Estimation of the social and environmental costs and benefits of pavement management – in partnership with Quebec’s Ministry of Transport;
  • Influence of street layout on drivers' behaviour;
  • Variations of traffic flow and related emissions over different time scales: evidence from big telematics data – in partnership with Sheffield-based company The Floow;
  • Pedestrian crossings and associated safety issues;
  • Environmental and health impacts of the use of warm mix asphalt in road construction – in partnership with Quebec’s Ministry of Transport;
  • Design assessment of traffic cone reflective stripes – in partnership with Quebec’s Ministry of Transport;
  • Longitudinal study of the behaviour of public transport users – in partnership with Montreal’s Transport Agency.

My research has been recognised with a number of awards, including:

  • The science popularisation award from the French-language Association for Knowledge (ACFAS) in 2007;
  • The early career research award from the Centre of Expertise and Research in Urban Infrastructure (CERIU) in 2010 and 2013;
  • The Best Paper in Health and Safety award from the International Conference for Sustainable Ecological Engineering Design for Society (SEEDS) in 2022.

A list of my publications can be found at ResearchGate.

I warmly welcome enquiries from prospective PhD students with an interest in sustainable transport engineering or related areas. Please feel free to get in touch to discuss potential projects.

Teaching

I have 20 years of teaching experience at pre-university and university levels at André-Laurendeau College (Montreal, Canada), École de Technologie Supérieure in (Montreal, Canada), and UWE Bristol. Throughout, I have striven to develop teaching that is inclusive, engaging, and designed to challenge students to think beyond preconceived ideas.

My teaching spans a wide range of topics, including transport and infrastructure, design and project work, as well as broader engineering skills such as materials science, field studies, and project and risk management.

As Neurodiversity Academic Lead of the School of Engineering, I am committed to developing a learning environment that caters to every type of need, championing the ideas that come from creative and diverse minds.

Background

I hold an M.Eng. in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering from Arts et Métiers ParisTech (Paris, France), and an M.Sc. and a Ph.D. in Construction Engineering from École de Technologie Supérieure (Montreal, Canada). After working as a research associate and undergraduate teacher early in my career, I was Associate Professor at École de Technologie Supérieure for three years before joining UWE Bristol in 2019.
