About me
Mahsa Afzali is a postgraduate researcher in the School of Architecture and Environment at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol). She holds an MSc in Building Information Modelling from UWE Bristol and an MSc in Architectural Engineering from Azad University, Iran. Her PhD investigates building performance and occupant experience in ultra-low-energy student housing. Mahsa has more than eight years of professional experience in architectural design, alongside experience in BIM, digital estates, CAFM, and asset information management within university and healthcare environments. Her teaching and research interests include sustainable architecture, building performance, Passivhaus, BIM, digital asset management, and built-environment research methods.
Area of expertise
Her principal areas of research interest and professional expertise include ultra-low-energy and Passivhaus buildings; building energy performance and the performance gap; post-occupancy evaluation; indoor environmental quality and thermal comfort; occupant behaviour and experience; sustainable student housing; and building performance evaluation.
Her wider professional expertise encompasses Building Information Modelling (BIM), computer-aided facilities management (CAFM), digital estates, asset information management, and performance reporting, particularly within university and healthcare environments.
