About me

Maria graduated from Manchester Business School with a PhD in Operations, Technology and Innovation Management. Her thesis, "European Policy and Operational Change" explored the effects of European Innovation policies on the management of healthcare projects in Framework Programmes. Previous qualifications include an MSc in Operations Management (UMIST) and a BA Hons in Business (De Montfort University). 

Maria was a Research Associate in the Innovation & Entrepreneurship group at Imperial College Business School from 2009 to 2011, received the Tore Browaldh three year funding to conduct her own research in innovation project management at the University of Umea Sweden from 2011 to 2014, was a lecturer in Management Systems at the University of Hull Business School, and senior lecturer in Project Management at the Manchester Metropolitan University. She now jointed UWE Bristol as a senior lecturer in Project Management.

Maria looks into the coordination and methodologies of creatives in innovation projects, from a socio-technical systems perspective.

  2. "Designing Out Medical Error" (DOME) from healthcare clinical ward operations
  3. "Simulation Modelling in Healthcare Planning" project on the Alcohol Improvement Programme of DoH,
  4. "Umea European Capital of Culture 2014 "
  5. "Hull City of Culture 2017"
  6. RISE Horizon 2020 agility and ambidexterity in construction projects
  7. Crowdfunding ICO projects 2019 – on going

Maria's work is published in two books and several journals such as innovation policy (Technovation), Systems Theory (Systems Research and Behavioral Science) and operations (IJOPM), human resource (HRMJ) and project management (IJPM). Maria has taught in 19 modules with hundreds of students including project management, research methods and operations management.
