About me
Dr Mark Stokes has been a senior lecturer at the University of the West of England Bristol for more than four years – working on the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (PCDA) programme. He was awarded his doctorate by the University of Huddersfield in 1992, following a nine-years long investigation into the sustainability of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) over a quarter century at seven inner-city tower blocks in Birmingham.
Before working at UWE Bristol, Mark had been a police officer (for 33 years), visiting lecturer in partnership working at the University of Wolverhampton, crime prevention consultant, war crimes investigator, Designing Out Crime manager, trainer and assessor, and the rural and business crime officer for Herefordshire.
Mark’s special interests include long-term sustainability in preventing crime; housing crime (burglary in particular); ensuring the aesthetics of CPTED do not create a fortress environment; and suicide prevention.
