About me
Dr Massud is a Lecturer in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol), where his research focuses on the design, analysis, and optimisation of wireless communication systems.
Massud received his BSc in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Istanbul University, Türkiye, his MSc in Telecommunications Systems (with Distinction) from Aston University, UK, and his PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from The University of Manchester, UK. During his MSc studies, he was awarded the John Flood Prize in Telecommunications Technology for achieving the highest overall mark in the programme.
Before pursuing an academic career, Massud spent more than five years working in engineering and management roles at Afghan Telecom Corporation. His work involved the planning, deployment, operation, and management of mobile and optical fibre communication networks, providing practical experience that continues to inform his research and teaching.
During his PhD, Massud worked as a Research Assistant at The University of Manchester on a project investigating AI-assisted condition monitoring of power substations. Following the completion of his PhD, Massud joined Durham University as a Postdoctoral Research Associate, where he contributed to the EPSRC-funded CHEDDAR project and collaborated with researchers across several UK universities before joining UWE Bristol.
Alongside his research activities, Massud has contributed to the delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate modules in wireless communications and related engineering subjects at Aston University, The University of Manchester, and Durham University.
Massud has published in IEEE journals and conferences and has authored policy-informed white papers on 6G technologies. He serves as a reviewer for a number of international journals and conferences and has served as a Technical Programme Committee (TPC) member for international conferences.
