About me

I began my career with Shell Research before becoming a Scenes of Crime Officer for Greater Manchester Police (GMP), and Senior Scenes of Crime Officer and Crime Scene Manager for Thames Valley Police (TVP).  I then re-trained as a Primary Teacher in West Berkshire, and worked in a range of schools in Oxfordshire. During this time I trained to become a Primary Science Specialist, supporting two schools in achieving silver Primary Science Quality Mark (PSQM).

Since then I have worked as a Teacher Educator, first as Associate Lecturer for Kingston University, London and the University of Reading, and then as a Lecturer in Primary Education (Science) for Bath Spa University before joining UWE Bristol.  I hold a Master's degree in Science Teacher Education from the University of Oxford.  At present I teach and support both post-graduate and under-graduate trainee teachers to develop their ability and confidence to teach Primary Science.

My research interests are:
- Pre-service teacher science misconceptions;
- How to develop science subject and pedagogical knowledge in trainee teachers;
- The use of theoretical perspectives and models to help develop mentor and trainee meta-cognitive approaches to professional development;
- Developing and using authentic assessments
