About me

Dr Meysam Zareiee is a Lecturer in the School of Engineering at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol). He holds a PhD in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, awarded in 2014, an MSc in Electrical/Electronic Engineering (2009), and a BSc (2007).

Before joining UWE Bristol, Dr Zareiee was a Lecturer at the University of Sunderland and a Research Associate at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow. Earlier in his career, he spent approximately ten years at Damghan University in Iran, where he progressed from Assistant Professor to Associate Professor. During this time, he served as Head of the Electrical Engineering Group and contributed to institutional governance as a member in specialist commission of the University's Academic Promotion and Review Board. His contributions to research and education were recognised through Distinguished Researcher and Distinguished Teacher awards.

Dr Zareiee has also held visiting research positions at Politecnico di Milano in Italy, the University of Granada, and Universitat Rovira i Virgili in Spain. These appointments have supported his international research collaborations and broadened his academic experience across several European institutions.

Since beginning his teaching career in 2009, Dr Zareiee has taught a wide range of theoretical and laboratory-based modules at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the UK and Iran. He has contributed actively to curriculum development and has supervised numerous undergraduate, postgraduate, and placement students in electrical and electronic engineering. While at Damghan University, he also played a key role in establishing several electrical engineering laboratories.

Dr Zareiee's research spans semiconductor devices, with a particular focus on MOSFETs, as well as industrial automation, robotics, digital systems, supervisory control theory, discrete-event and hybrid systems, optimisation, and Petri nets. His work encompasses both theoretical developments and practical applications. He has undertaken several university-industry collaborative projects and secured research funding from European and Iranian sources.

He has published more than 30 papers in reputable peer-reviewed journals, frequently as first or corresponding author, presented his work at international conferences, and registered a patent. His research received the Best Paper Award in Track B, Discrete Event Systems and Hybrid Systems: Modelling and Supervisory Control, at the 14th IFAC Symposium on Information Control Problems in Manufacturing in Bucharest. Dr Zareiee also contributes extensively to the academic community as a peer reviewer, having reviewed more than 100 manuscripts for over 15 scholarly journals.
