About me

I am a social scientist with research interests in the fields of prison health policy and governance as well as the political economy. My current research investigates the impact of macroeconomic austerity on prison health in England. It is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).

To date, I have published more than 40 papers in leading academic journals, including the BMC Public Health, Journal of Public Health, and Journal of Medical Ethics.

I also teach MSc Public Health and BA Criminology at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol) and Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MB ChB) at the University of Bristol.

I read law and public health at the University of Bristol and UWE Bristol, respectively. Prior to my academic career, I was a Public Health Commissioner for various public-sector organisations (with a total budget of £25.3m) for nearly a decade.

I am often invited to collaborate on research projects relating to my areas of research interest and to speak at conferences in both Europe and the United Kingdom. I welcome potential collaborations and can be contacted at
