About me

Patrick has expertise in construction management (CM), project management (PM), and quantity surveying (QS) research, practice and teaching. He is a research-active academic with publications in leading construction and occupation health and safety (H&S) journals and conferences. Besides his main research interest - occupational H&S, he is also interested in building information modelling, sustainable construction and procurement. His research work has benefited from funds from organisations including the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors Research Trust, United Kingdom Department for International Development (DFID), Council of Heads of Built Environment (CHOBE), and British Council. He led (as Principal Investigator) a consortium of 10 industry and academic institutions on an EPSRC funded project to develop a novel web-based application for design for safety.

Patrick is a reviewer for research funder (e.g. EPSRC and Newton Fund) and several built environment journals (e.g. Safety Science and Construction Management and Economics) and conferences (e.g. Association of Researchers in Construction Management and CIB W099 Conferences). He also acts as external examiner for PhD candidates and a postgraduate course.

Patrick has delivered talks at major practitioner events including conferences organised by the Commonwealth Association of Surveying and Land Economy.  He sits on the committee of several built environment professional and research associations/groups He is a member of the standard setting committee for the International Construction Measurement Standards (ICMS).  

Patrick has worked in academic posts within construction and project management at The University of Manchester, City University London, University of Wolverhampton, University of West London and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). He has also worked in QS and CM roles within the construction industry. Whilst working in the construction industry, he developed commercial digital tools for construction cost estimating, resources extraction, and construction cash flow forecasting.

Patrick holds a PhD in Construction Project Management from the University of Wolverhampton, for which he studied the H&S impact of features of construction projects and eventually developed a digital H&S risk management toolkit. He also holds a PGCert. (with Distinction) in Academic Practice from City University London, BSc. (First Class Honours) in Building Technology from KNUST, Fellowship of the UK Higher Education Academy, and incorporate membership of the Chartered Institute of Building.
