About me

Peter Clegg is a Professor in Politics and International Relations, and Head of the School of Social Sciences.

Peter achieved his BA (Hons) in History and Politics and MSc in International Relations at the University of Southampton. He continued his studies at Southampton, achieving his PhD in 2000. Peter joined the staff at UWE soon after. He has also been a Visiting Research Fellow at the Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social and Economic Studies (SALISES) at the University of the West Indies in Jamaica, and at the Royal Netherlands Institute of Southeast Asian and Caribbean Studies in Leiden.

Peter's work focuses primarily on the Caribbean and the British Overseas Territories. He has worked with a range of governments and external organisations and has published widely. He is on the editorial board of The Round Table, The Commonwealth Journal of International Affairs and the international editorial board of Small States and Territories.

Peter has been Head of the School of Social Sciences since 2016. The School incorporates Criminology, Philosophy, Policing, Politics & International Relations, Psychology, and Sociology, two research groups and one research centre. It is a large and vibrant School, with a strong reputation for teaching, research and professional practice.

Governance and development issues in non-independent territories. 
Small states in the international system.
