About me

I am a multi disciplinary artist – maker – educator with an MA in Multidisciplinary Printmaking, UWE and a BA in Fine Art, UWIC.  I work part time as a Senior Technical Instructor in Physical Fabrication at the University of the West of England, specialising in Vitreous Enamel, Electroplating and Wax, with expertise in metal, casting, ceramics, glass and print.

My role includes teaching and learning in both large and small groups and 1:1, developing workshop content and creative resources, supporting students as they play, plan, develop and make their projects.

Over the last two years I have begun  a collaborative, practice - based research practice funded by UWE's Research Investment Scheme (RIS). This research is exploring the links between Play, Creativity and Wellbeing in students in HE at UWE studying creative subjects with Anneliese Paul – producing the 'Conditions for Play' manifesto. I have become a member of DRAW (drawuwe.com) delivering and researching the arts for wellbeing.

Alongside this I work as an Arts in Health Practioner using creativity to support wellbeing within the community, educational and health care settings; designing and facilitating creative workshops for places such as; Fresh Arts -  Arts on referral programs for NBHT at Southmead Hospital, Bath Mind – Room 627, Alive -intergenerational projects, Dept. of Kindness and Living Well at UWE. I have lectured on my creative wellbeing practice for the MA Arts Practice at the University of Wales and BA Psychology, Arts and Health module at UWE.

I am really interested in multi-disciplinary approaches to creative projects and collaboration. I have set up a number of schemes at UWE for staff and student alike.

  • Print Club – developing and running an afterhours weekly printmaking workshop with Jemma Gunning for staff and students – operating on an 'all welcome, no skills needed, low fi and collaborative, community space'. This initiative will continue in 23/24
  • A  series of creative wellbeing sessions for UWE staff within the Fabrication area alongside Fiona Dowling, as part of the Creative Collective, funded through the Health & Wellbeing Innovation Scheme.
  • PIP funded creative wellbeing sessions for students, running online during COVID and delivered on staff away days, a three part Creative wellbeing Worksop run for BA (Filmmaking) in Professional Practice week and for Paramedic year 2 students with Anneliese Paul
  • A pilot, 'Artist Facilitator' course designed and delivered with Anneliese Paul, specifically for students thinking about working in Arts and Health to explore this particular role.

I continue to explore and respond to materials, the natural world, human connections to others and objects in my environment, through a narrative of visual making mediums, such as drawing, sculpting, printmaking and performance. I find great value in discovering and incorporating new processes into my physical making.

My usual working pattern is Wednesday to Friday (term time only)
