About me

After starting working life as a software engineer and statistical programmer, working mainly in the banking and financial sectors, I turned to academia as a mature student. I achieved a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics and Statistics, followed by a PhD in Mathematics in the area of Computational Number Theory supervised jointly by Prof. Catherine Hobbs (Oxford Brookes University) and Prof. Roger Heath-Brown (University of Oxford).

I have worked in Higher Education since September 2000, and have taught and led a wide range of Undergraduate and Postgraduate modules and programmes in Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science and Data Science.

I took strategic responsibility for the Mathematics and Statistics subject area at Oxford Brookes University in 2011, before taking on leadership  and management for Undergraduate Engineering in 2013 and then for Data Science in 2014.

After a one-year, fixed-term post at UWE, I joined the Dyson Institute for Engineering and Technology in 2019 in its founding and most senior academic role.

I returned to UWE in 2022, and am currently an Associate Director of the School of Computing and Creative Technologies, with responsibility for the Data Science subject area.
