About me

Professor Ray Priest – International Director: Asia Pacific and Managing Director of UWE International Educational Services Sdn Bhd

Professor Ray Priest was appointed to the University of West of England in September 2010, initially to support school and college partnerships in the UK and then, from June 2011, to work with higher education institutions and individual students throughout the Asia Pacific region.   He was appointed International Director for Asia Pacific in October 2017 and Managing Director of UWE International Educational Services in 2018.       This organisation has grown to have over 90 staff located in 14 countries and territories.

Ray graduated from Bristol University in 1978 and then completed an MEd in Educational Management at Brunel University in 1992.   He was awarded Honorary Doctorates by University of the West of England in 2006 and Bristol University in 2012.    Ray was appointed as a Professor in 2011.

Prior to taking up this appointment, Ray enjoyed 18 years as the Principal of a highly successful community college and subsequently, The City Academy, Bristol.    During this time, he acted as one of a team of seducation advisors within the Department for Education helping to inform policy developments at that time.  Later, Ray became the Chief Executive of an organisation working to bring together educational leadership and management expertise across a group of schools.  As such, Ray was engaged in UK educational policy initiatives.

Throughout his career, Ray has taken a keen interest in initial teacher education and the development of school management in international contexts.   This has engaged him in several international exchange programmes, conferences, seminars and training programmes.   He has spells working with organisations in the Caribbean, Africa and Asia and has also delivered presentations in many countries.    Ray has been fortunate to be able to visit educational institutions in over 90 countries.

Since locating to
Thailand in 2011, Ray has been involved in several TNE programmes with higher education institutions throughout the region and UWE has 8,000 learners on such collaborations.    His particular interest is in developing leadership and management capacity to support the development of young people who have the potential to become leaders.
