About me
I am a Feminist Urban Researcher and Associate Lecturer with over nine years of experience in architectural education across the UK and Egypt. I hold a bachelor's and master's degree in architecture, where I developed a deep interest in participatory and inclusive urban development. My work is situated at the intersection of socio-spatial integration, gender and plaining, and inclusive planning, with a specific focus on the lived experiences of marginalized communities.
Currently, I am a researcher at the Centre for Sustainable Planning and Environments (SPE) at UWE Bristol, where my work focuses on inclusive urbanism, gender-sensitive planning, and refugee spatial integration. My doctoral research explores how urban environments can be designed to support the spatial inclusion and everyday integration of Muslim women refugees, particularly in the context of Bristol. This research is carried out in close collaboration with local NGOs and refugee support charities.
In addition to my doctoral work, I work as a Research Associate on the interdisciplinary project ‘Dancing the Impossible City’ led by Dr. Elahe Karimnia, exploring creative and performative approaches to spatial practice. I also hold a strategic leadership role as a member of the Board of Trustees for Bristol City of Sanctuary, where I contribute to city-wide efforts for refugee inclusion.
Before joining UWE, I was a member of the Urban City Unit at ESU-LAB (Egyptian Sustainable Urbanism Lab), Mansoura University, engaging in interdisciplinary projects in partnership with German academic institutions. These projects addressed pressing urban challenges in the Egypt's Delta region, including informal settlements, public space, and community participation.
In addition to my research, I contribute to architectural education at UWE. I am involved as a tutor on the MArch Live Projects modules and provide design studio support to Level 2 Architecture students, bridging my academic expertise with practice-based learning.
