About me
I am Professor of Pharmacy in the School of Applied Sciences at UWE Bristol. My role focuses on leading the accreditation, design and initiation of new Master of Pharmacy provision at UWE, working with colleagues, professional partners and stakeholders to develop a contemporary, inclusive and practice-facing pharmacy curriculum.
Before joining UWE, I was Professor of Applied and Clinical Pharmacy and Head of the Department of Pharmacy at Kingston University London. In that role, I led a large academic team and was responsible for strategic planning, curriculum design and delivery, accreditation, recruitment, quality assurance and the long-term sustainability of pharmacy provision. My academic leadership has been shaped by a commitment to developing pharmacists as integral members of the healthcare team, with the skills, confidence and professional identity needed to respond to changing health and care needs.
My research focuses on public health, medicines optimisation, adherence, digital health and the role of pharmacy in disease prevention and management. I have worked strategically with NHS organisations, local authorities, voluntary sector partners and international collaborators to translate research into practice and improve patient outcomes. My work includes evaluating technology-enabled care, community pharmacy services, digital health interventions, long-term condition management and innovative approaches to healthcare education.
Area of expertise
My experience spans pharmacy education, curriculum design, professional accreditation, academic leadership, public health, medicines optimisation, adherence, digital health, telehealth, community pharmacy, long-term condition management and healthcare innovation.
I have extensive experience in designing and delivering research-informed pharmacy education, including experiential, simulation-based and practice-facing learning. I am particularly interested in developing curricula that prepare pharmacy students for evolving roles in prescribing, prevention, personalised care and multidisciplinary practice.
My research experience includes qualitative, quantitative and mixed-methods approaches, with a strong focus on translational research and real-world service evaluation. I have led and contributed to externally funded projects relating to technology-enabled care, big data analytics in health, medicines optimisation, avoidable hospital readmissions, public health needs mapping, community pharmacy and digital innovation.
I also have experience of academic leadership, including managing teams, supporting staff development, leading accreditation activity, developing partnerships with NHS and practice stakeholders, and aligning education and research with institutional and professional priorities.
