About me
About me:
Rob is a recovering Doritos addict, he’s Welsh, almost annoyingly enthusiastic and pretty vocal about all things musical and political. Married and still surprisingly upbeat about the whole thing! When not immersed in psychopharmacology or criminal justice he likes to melt his neighbour’s ears with guitar riffs. He loves to delight people with tales of his former occupation as a sound engineer.
As a newly qualified Nurse, Rob worked on Elizabeth Casson Unit (Female PICU) for several years as a band 5 and then band 6 RMN. He went on to complete his mentorship qualification at UWE and quickly developed an interest in clinical skills teaching. He has been dazzling student’s with his enthusiasm and ability to chat absolute nonsense ever since.
With a keen interest in criminology and forensic aspects of mental health, Rob was motivated to pursue other opportunities within the NHS and he moved into criminal Justice (HMP Bristol) in 2012 initially as a senior practitioner and then taking over the key mentor role for placement coordination.
His role as key mentor enabled him to consolidate his student mentorship and develop his passion for teaching whilst ensuring his students understood that it was an official learning outcome to laugh at his terrible jokes. It was at this stage that he began working towards a career in higher education.
Rob’s final hurrah in the NHS came as he qualified as a non-medical prescriber and took up a team leadership post. He enjoyed telling people how to do things so much, that he knew that teaching was definitely the next logical step!
