About me
I am an industrial Chartered Engineer with over 38 years of industrial experience gained at BAE Systems (13 yrs), STMicroelectronics (13 yrs), Dyson (11 yrs) and Oxa (1 yr).
I have career long history of academic collaboration; for example, through:
- Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851 Industrial Fellowship between BAE Systems and the University of Bristol
- Royal Academy of Engineering Visiting Professorship between Imperial College London and Dyson
- Honorary Professorship between Birmingham University and Oxa.
My earliest work with UWE dates back to 1999 when working on a robotic demonstration for the Millenium Dome Exhibition that was sponsored by BAE Systems.
Area of expertise
The main themes of my work are related to robotics through:
- research into navigation algorithms, specifically Simultaneous Localisation and Map Building (SLAM),
- development of embedded technologies, specifically System-on-Chip devices,
- autonomous robot full product life cycle, specifically the Dyson 360Heurist and 360VisNav, and
- teaching support for robotic and related subject areas at 32 Universities World-wide.
