About me
Dr Rónán Tynan is a Senior Research Technician at the Health Tech Hub, with a background in molecular biology, neurodevelopment, molecular diagnostics and assay development. His research interests include how environmental and experimental factors can influence biological processes and molecular assay performance.
Rónán holds a PhD in Health and Biological Sciences and a Master’s degree in Regenerative Medicine. His research has included exploring the effects of maternal hypothyroidism on proteins involved in early neurodevelopment. He also has industrial experience in in vitro diagnostics and PCR-based molecular testing.
At the Health Tech Hub, Rónán has contributed to a Cancer Research UK-funded project focused on the early detection of pancreatic cancer. His work has involved developing and optimising recombinase polymerase amplification (RPA) across different assay conditions and sample environments, including successful amplification in the presence of nanoparticles and of KRAS-mutated DNA from pancreatic cancer cells.
