About me

My research is focused on the dynamic relationship between the law and society. My particular interests include 18th and 19th century criminal justice and criminal justice heritage, the English Magistracy, social protest, and regional government. I am co-lead of the Humanities Research Group at UWE. As a collaborative practitioner I work with arts and heritage organisations and external partners to engage public audiences with historic research in ways that are meaningful in the present. I was consultant historian for Shire Hall courthouse museum, and Creative Youth Network's 'The Courts'. Both my historical research and practice-led research has informed specialist taught modules on crime and criminal justice, public history and heritage in practice.
