About me

Sarah initially joined UWE as Project Officer within the Faculty of Health & Applied Sciences in 2005, working on placements co-ordination with the academic team. Due to the success of the work, this was established as a permanent post in 2009. Sarah's role has included playing a major part in: placement development and relationship building; partnership working, equalities planning for students seeking a placement; the design and implementing of quality assurance processes; designing and overseeing financial systems and processes for paying placements and contributing to Managing Practice Learning Courses for practitioners.

Sarah's roots are in the voluntary sector. She went from working for a small local charity to a national organisation committed to addressing social inequalities by supporting people affected by imprisonment. Practical and emotional support was provided to prisoners' children and families, and to prisoners themselves (e.g. through a suicide prevention project). Sarah continued her involvement in the voluntary sector as a Trustee for Full Circle@ Docklands for five years until Sept 2021.

Sarah was seconded into the UWE Student Communications Team as part of the NSS Bounceback pilot from 1st November 2021- 31 August 2022. She linked with the Faculty of Health and Applied Sciences with a specific focus on  improving student communications within the Nursing and Midwifery programmes.

Sarah brought her experience as Social Work Placements Co-ordinator to this role. This involved linking undergraduate students to placements in the statutory and voluntary, independent and private sectors within the Bristol area and beyond (including Somerset, North Somerset and Gloucestershire).
