About me
I am a qualified social worker and specialised in mental health. I practiced in community mental health teams, mental health crisis teams and primary care facing services. I was an Approved Social Worker and training in CBT for psychosis, specialising in family work for psychosis. I trained as an interpersonal therapist for people with depression. I have managed and directed across the majority of core, specialist and inpatient mental health services.
Prior to joining UWE I was the CHief Operating Officer for Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust, an integrated community and mental health Trust where I gained experience directing community physical health services including community hospitals, Minor Illness and Injury Units and integrated community services. I was the Accountable Emergency Officer with significant experience in taking command in critical incidents. I am a qualified coach and mentor and am a Nye Bevan graduate with the NHS Leadership Academy.
I have taught and provided training in family work for psychosis, management and leadership in healthcare, compassionate leadership and, of course, social work. In terms of research areas of interest, I'm particularly interested in leadership in health care and social work leadership. I am also interested in looking at how 'blue therapy' ie being in water can improve mental health.
Outside of UWE I am a swimming coach and an open water swimmer. I've competed in a number of distance swimming challenges including an English Channel relay. I also compete in cold/ ice water swimming events including the world winter swimming championships.
