About me

Serena is a Research Fellow within the Faculty of Health and Applied Sciences (HAS). Serena is currently working on a project looking at first contact physiotherapy in primary care (FRONTIER).

Area of expertise

Serena obtained her BSc and MSc at the University of Wales, Bangor, both with a focus on physical activity and long term conditions. She completed her PhD at the University of the West of England which aimed to improve the understanding of the experience of stiffness in patients with rheumatoid arthritis and develop a stiffness patient-reported outcome measure (PROM).

Serena has expertise in qualitative and quantitative research methods, in particular one-to-one interviews, focus groups, cognitive interviews, multivariate analysis methods, and a recent interest in realist evaluation. Her particular areas of interest include rheumatology and musculoskeletal research, outcome measure development, self-management, and exercise and physical activity. ‚Äč
