About me
I am a Senior Lecturer in Academic Practice and have worked in educational/academic staff development since 2015. The majority of my work at UWE focuses on supporting staff development in academic practice. I am responsible for a breadth of activities focused on supporting teaching and learning across UWE, facilitating the sharing of good practice, and supporting colleagues to gain recognition.
I am the Programme Leader of the UWE Academic Professional Programme. This programme is designed to support staff at UWE in their development as academics and Higher Education practitioners. It has been designed in line with the national Academic Professional Apprenticeship (APA) Standard, and is accredited by Advance HE against the UK Professional Standards Framework (UKPSF) for Teaching and Supporting Learning in HE. Completion is recognised by a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Professional Practice (PGCAPP) and Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
I also lead UWE’s Needs Analysis. This focuses on supporting the professional development of academic practice for staff at UWE, especially lecturers and senior lecturers who are new to role.
I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Before starting at UWE, I worked in Academic Development at the University of Exeter. My original academic background was in Classics and Ancient History, specialising especially in alcohol consumption in ancient Greco-Roman society. I have previously taught at the Universities of Exeter and Bristol, and have worked on research projects for Exeter, the IEHCA and Harvard.
