About me

Tessa Ratuszynska (She/They) is a practice-based researcher working with Virtual and Extended realities (XR). Their research to date has explored the affordances of XR for documentary making, and is concerned with how the medium challenges traditional documentary ethics. Their creative projects share themes of sexuality, consent, gender and queer identity and often employ forms of co-design with represented communities and contributors. Their work has been commissioned by Unlimited, StoryFutures, the BBC and the BFI and exhibited at Sheffield Doc Fest, Raindance IFF, Venice International Festival, and IDFA.

Tessa is currently a research fellow embedded within the Immersive Arts programme, a UK-wide scheme offering an inclusive and accessible programme of research, training, funding and events for 200+ artists. Her current research focuses on the impact of immersive technologies on funded artists’ practice, and capturing valuable artist-led learning on inclusive experience design for diverse audiences.
In all their work Tessa is interested in audience access and care, and democratising XR production.
