About me

Dr. Thomas Win is a Senior Lecturer in Cyber Security at the Department of Computer Science and Creative Technologies (CSCT), University of the West of England (UWE Bristol). His research interests relate to privacy-preserving cyberthreat detection and malware analysis in cloud computing and different smart city domains (e.g., Industry 4.0). He is a member of the Cyber Security & Cyber Crime Cluster (CSC3) Research Cluster here at UWE Bristol, where he explores large scale malware and cyberthreat analytics for different cloud as well as other environments (e.g., IoT, containers, etc).

Prior to joining UWE, he was a Senior Lecturer (Computing) at the University of Gloucestershire where he was also the Academic Course Leader for the BSc (Hons.) Cyber & Computer Security course. He managed to secure an internal funding to explore the use of privacy-preserving cyber analytics in Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) detection. He also supervised exchange students from INSA Centre Val de Loire (Bourges) with their research into cybersecurity threat detection and mitigation. He was also the Chair of the British Computer Society (BCS) for the Cheltenham & Gloucester branch during his time there.

He has been able to publish his research findings in different well-respected publications, including the IEEE International Transactions on Big Data. He has also taken reviewer roles for conferences such as the International Workshop on Big Data Analytics for Cyber Intelligence & Defence (BDA4CID) as well as Cyber Situational Awareness (CyberSA 2020).
