About me
I'm a research-active academic with over 30 years’ teaching experience in UK Higher Education, specialising in tourism and hospitality management, marketing and strategy. I was previously Head of the Department of Marketing, Strategy and Innovation (interim 2023-25) and Principal Lecturer in Tourism Management at Bournemouth University (2015-25). This followed an earlier period of employment at UWE Bristol as Lecturer then Senior Lecturer in the Department of Geography and Environmental Management and the Bristol Business School (2002-15). My first academic appointment was as Lecturer at the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff, now Cardiff Metropolitan University (1994-2002).
Area of expertise
My expertise and thought leadership includes tourism industry dynamics in traditional seaside resorts in the UK and Northwest Europe, new and novel leisure and tourism spaces, places, and experiences (e.g., urban beaches and virtual worlds, immersive events, and character arts trails), and facility and service design in tourism and hospitality.
