About me
I lead the Impact and Commercialisation Team within the Research and External Engagement (REE) department at UWE, where we’re driven by a mission to transform ground breaking research into real-world solutions that create lasting societal and commercial value.
I am passionate about unlocking the full potential of research by:
Crafting and executing strategies to identify and accelerate high-impact research, ensuring it reaches its full potential, building a structured pipeline for turning it into tangible societal and commercial benefits.
Managing and growing the university’s intellectual property (IP) portfolio, driving licensing opportunities and forging partnerships with industry, investors, and government to amplify research impact and open up new opportunities.
Establishing robust support systems and training programmes that empower researchers to push boundaries and excel in research translation.
We are committed to ensuring that UWE’s research drives real change, from transforming industries to improving lives.
My earlier career was spent in retail sales and business development, where I worked my way up from salesperson and team leader to National Sales Manager. During this time, I founded an innovative product design business and luggage brand which won international design awards and received investment to support its growth. My company had an intellectual property portfolio for which I negotiated international licencing deals whilst also selling via distributors and e-commerce globally. I have also run a pitch deck consultancy, supporting start-ups in designing and pitching decks to gain sales and funding.
During my most recent career history I have been a coach to scaling tech companies as a Scaleup Director for Innovate UK, and managed an environmental living lab in the space sector. The living lab project focused on supporting the adoption of agricultural and environmental technology, underpinned by the use of ubiquitous connectivity and satellite data. The above roles have seen me collaborate with academia, public and private sector, and inspirational directors and innovators, helping support effective communication and identification and commercialisation of scalable solutions.
