About me
As the Deputy Head of Department (DHoD) in the Department of Applied Sciences. In my role, I am responsible for driving the strategic development of action plans for several key performance indicators e.g. learning and teaching, graduate outcomes, internationalisation, widening participation etc. Before starting my role as DHoD, I was the Employability & Widening Participation Lead for the Department alongside my role as Senior Lecturer addressing issues such as the awarding gap, staff and student diversity.
I am passionate about research and currently lead my own group of researchers at PhD, Masters and Undergraduate level using laboratory-based and non-laboratory-based research methods. My research addresses issues in the development and evaluation of antimicrobial drug compounds, clinical transport systems and diseases of global health importance. I am also passionate about enabling undergraduate students succeed through research providing opportunities for internships, graduate assistantships and volunteering opportunities.
I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and an active member of several professional societies including the American Society for Microbiology (ASM), Society for Applied Microbiology (SfAM), Microbiology Society, African Society for Laboratory Medicine (ASLM) etc.
I am a recipient of several awards and have been nominated and shortlisted for many others including: the UWE VC Excellence Award (2016), Bristol BME Powerlist (2018) and several Student led awards at UWE Bristol.
At UWE Bristol, I am one of the coordinators of the Africa Staff Network and a member of the BME forum.
