About me

I am a Senior Lecturer in Politics and International Relations at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol).

I hold a PhD in International Relations from the University of St Andrews in Scotland. I completed my undergraduate studies in Law at Externado University in Colombia, specialising in International Law and Politics.

Currently, I am an Associate Editor of policy and practice for the Journal of Disappearance Studies (Bristol University press) and a former Research Fellow at Harvard University’s Carr-Ryan Center for Human Rights Policy working on reparations to victims of armed conflicts. I am also the Director of the research group Marine Justice and International Law  of the Colombian organisation, the Center for Marine Justice.

At UWE Bristol, I am an Associate Member of the ‘Research in Public International Law’ research group, the ‘Justice and Security' research group and the Global Migration Network. I am also co-convenor of "Thought in Action: Conversations About Cinema", a film discussion club run by the UWE Bristol’s Politics and International Relations and Philosophy departments and the Watershed cinema in Bristol that seeks to promote conversations about contemporary films between activists, academics, and the general public.

Prior to her academic career, I worked as a human rights lawyer, specialising in taking cases involving violence against women, indigenous peoples, and trade union members to international courts. I was also a consultant for the International Labour Organisation and several international NGOs. In 2016, I was appointed Deputy Director of Victims' Rights, Peace and Reconciliation at the Mayor's Office in Bogotá. Previously, and I was Director of International Advocacy at the Colombian Commission of Jurists NGO.
