About me

I am a Senior Lecturer in Aviation Management at the University of the West of England.  I obtained my MSc in Air Safety Management from City University London and have 18 years of industry experience including Aircraft Maintenance, Engineering Training and Quality & Safety. While in industry I was an instructor in aviation legislation, SMS and human factors for industry and regulatory authorities. While SMS Manager for the engineering division of a national carrier in the Middle East, I developed and managed the organisation’s SMS, ensuring it conformed to the requirements of over twenty national aviation authorities. I have chaired national aviation authority working groups for enhancement of SMS in the Middle East and represented industry at the authority’s Airworthiness Committees.

My research is related to training in aviation, with a focus on designing effective training and assessment processes for aircraft maintenance personnel. I am particularly interested in exploring non-aviation industry training and approaches to  assess its impact operational safety.

Area of expertise
