About me

I am a Chartered Civil Engineer with a postgraduation in Rehabilitation of Built Heritage by the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto and a PhD in Civil Engineering by the University of Aveiro.

I am a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Civil Engineering at the Department of Geography and Environmental Management of University of the West of England - UWE Bristol since 2021 and an invited Assistant Professor at the University of Coimbra. I am also an Editor-in-Chief of Conservar Património, a SCOPUS and Web-of-Science indexed journal dedicated to heritage studies, and a Co-Editor-in-Chief of GeoHazards, a multidisciplinary open-access journal devoted to theoretical and applied research across the whole spectrum of geomorphological hazards, namely endogenous and exogenous hazards, and those related to climate change and human activity.

Area of expertise

I have more than a decade of academic experience in conservation of historical structures and structural vulnerability assessment under earthquake, fire and flood. In recent years, my research has focused on the large-scale vulnerability assessment of urban areas, advanced structural analysis, non-destructive evaluation and diagnosis, and documentation of cultural heritage and historical sites.
