About me

I am a Senior Lecturer in Aerospace Structures at the University of the West of England (UWE) in Bristol, a Visiting Research Fellow at the Bristol Composites Institute in the University of Bristol and a Visiting Fellow at the University of Tokyo. My research interests lie primarily in the failure of advanced composites, Machine Learning and Finite Element Analysis.

I am currently working on the below projects:
2022-2024 The Royal Society International Exchange Project (£12k, PI)
2023-2024 MHI Bonded Structures Fatigue Project (Co-I)

Previous projects:
2021-2022 "A High-fidelity Finite Element Method (Hi-FEM) for Failure Prediction of Sustainable Composites" Vice Chancellor's Early Career Research Development Award, UWE Bristol, (£15k, PI)
2021 “Workshop on Applications of Composites in Extreme Temperatures”, FET Enterprise Knowledge Exchange and Public Engagement Fund, UWE Bristol, (£3k, PI)
2021 "Building a Raspberry Pi Cluster", EMSG fund, UWE Bristol, (£10k, PI)
2016-2019 Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Bonded Structures Project, University of Bristol, (£350k, Researcher Co-Investigator)
2019 "In Situ Observation of Delamination Onset in Tapered Composite Laminates Using Computed Tomography" School Pump-priming Fund, University of Bristol, (£3k, PI)
2018 "Failure Prediction of a Full-scale Stiffened Panel using In-situ CT scanning" Faculty of Engineering Pump-priming Fund, University of Bristol, (£5k, PI)
2017 "Determination of Composites Through-thickness Compression (TTC) Enhancement Factor" School Pump-priming Fund, University of Bristol, (£2.5k, PI)

Area of expertise

Notched failure; Strength scaling; In situ characterization using X-ray Computed Tomography; Adhesive joints; Environmental effects; Defects & features generated during the Automated Fibre Placement (AFP) process; Finite Element Analysis.
