About me

A Fulani originally from Digil, Nigeria, Dr Arabo has and is providing strategic leadership within the cluster of Cyber Security. Where Dr Arabo has strategically led the three core pieces of evidence used by UWE to gain the recognition of  Gold NSCS Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Education. These include the leadership in the development and certification of the MSC Cyber Security, the creation of the Cyber Security Research Unit – now UWECyber and Co-founding UnclockCybber – a key player in UWE Cyber Security Outreach initiatives.

Dr Arabo's strategic leadership has helped to catalyse UWE growing reputation in Cyber Security with his foresight and sheer hard work

As a result of Dr Arabo's sustained record of accomplishment, he has now been asked to lead the re-design for NCSC certification of the UWE undergraduate cyber security and Digital Forensic programme. Which when delivered, will make UWE the only university that has its UG, PG and Apprenticeship programmes certified by the NCSC.

 

Dr Arabo sustained contribution in terms of advancing teaching and learning, research-informed teaching and pedagogy, Knowledge exchange and research with impact has landed him many reconditions both nationally and internationally including the National Teaching Fellowship 2022, SFHEA etc.

Dr Arabo completed his PhD at Liverpool John Moores University, where he investigated the area of identity management in mobile ad hoc networks within MANets, and crisis management system-of-systems component composition in ubiquitous environments. He gained his MEng in computing from Swansea University in 2007.

Before joining UWE as a Senior Lecturer, Dr. Arabo was a Research Fellow at the University of Oxford, where he works and lead a project on Connected Home Ecosystem Security futures. Dr. Arabo works on security issues in ubiquitous environments, particularly concerning mobile devices, component composition, and future home networks. Dr. Arabo has over ten years of experience in research and development within the field of network security, security of system-of-systems composition, mobile ad hoc networks, ubiquitous computing, and identity management. His research is not only academically focused but has been done in collaboration with industrial partners, funded by the EPSRC. Dr. Arabo has provided lab support and tutorials in modules within computer science (e.g., computer architecture, computer forensics, and operating systems) at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He is a professional member of the British Computer Society (BCS), a committee member of the Information Security Specialised Group (ISSG), a committee member of his local BCS branch, and the Young Professional Representative (YPG) of the same branch. Dr. Arabo is also a Senior Fellow with the HEA. 

Dr. Arabo has many international publications, book chapters, and conference papers, and has participated in top IEEE technical conference program committees and journal reviewing. He has reviewed for the International Journal of Network Security (IJNS), is a Review Committee member of the IEEE Journal of Communications Surveys and Tutorials and serves as a technical program committee member for IEEE ICCNC, IAPEC 2011, ISIEA, and ICEDSA.
