About me

Started work in the NHS in 1975 and trained in broad range of physiological measurements - Cardiac, Neuro, Audiology, Opthalmology and in Medical Physics and Medical Engineering. Chose to work in Respiratory Physiology, initially at Seaham Hall Hospital, then moved to Freeman Hospital, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. In 1982, moved to Respiratory Medicine, Bristol Royal Infirmary. Obtained my PhD through University of Bristol and from 1988 to November 2023 worked in Respiratory Physiology and Sleep-Breathing Disorders. I am now retired from the NHS.


I have been teaching in higher education since 1985 including Exeter College (ONC in MPPM), NESCOT (HNC MPPM), City of Westminster (HNC and BSc in Respiratory/Sleep) and since 2015 here at UWE.

My areas of interest are Respiratory Physiology and Measurement, Sleep-breathing disorders and their treatment, and Exercise Physiology nad Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing.

I am a member of various committees of the Association for Respiratory Technology & Physiology (ARTP), The Education Committee of the British Sleep Society, The OSA Alliance. I'm an advisor to Rett UK.

I have research links with the University of Bristol - Biomed Sci and the Vet School.
