About me
Dr Aghil Jafari is a Senior Lecturer in Robotics at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol). From 2023 to 2026, he served as Programme Leader for the BEng/MEng Mechatronics Engineering programme, where he led the development and delivery of the programme, established laboratory and project infrastructure, and supported its growth from 2023 to 2026.
His research focuses on robotics, mechatronics and control, particularly haptic systems, teleoperation and telerobotics, human–robot interaction, cyber-physical systems, system modelling, stability and advanced control. He has led and contributed to externally funded research supported by EPSRC and NIHR, and has developed international research collaborations with institutions including the University of Agder, the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and KAIST. His research has also contributed to patented technology in the area of safety and stability in remote robotic control.
Dr Jafari received his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Korea University of Technology and Education (KoreaTech) in 2015, following an MSc in Mechatronics Engineering from Amirkabir University of Technology. Before joining UWE as a Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics, and subsequently becoming Senior Lecturer in Robotics, he worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at KoreaTech and as a Research Fellow at Bristol Robotics Laboratory.
Alongside his research, he has extensive experience in programme development, curriculum design and teaching across robotics, mechatronics and control engineering. He has developed and led modules in areas including modern control, advanced control engineering, robotics and integrated electromechanical systems, with a strong emphasis on laboratory-based, problem-based and industry-relevant learning.
