About me
Alessandro Pontillo holds a PhD in Aerospace Engineering from Cranfield University, UK, where his doctoral research, undertaken in collaboration with Airbus, examined high-aspect-ratio wings on commercial aircraft through a combined numerical and experimental approach. He completed his MSc in Aeronautical Engineering and BSc in Aerospace Engineering at Sapienza University of Rome, Italy. He is now a Senior Lecturer in Aerospace Systems at UWE Bristol and an Honorary Senior Research Associate in Aeroelastic Modelling at the University of Bristol.
Area of expertise
Alessandro Pontillo is a Senior Lecturer in Aerospace Systems at UWE Bristol, focusing on topics like flexible-structure dynamics, nonlinear aeroelasticity, and experimental aerodynamics. His research involves developing reduced-order models to predict flutter, divergence, and limit-cycle oscillations. He also focuses on developing novel Ground Vibration Testing methods and has 10+ years of experience in aeroelastic wind-tunnel experiments.
With over ten years of experience in ATI programs, EPSRC projects, and his PhD work on gust load reduction for high-aspect-ratio wings, Alessandro's expertise covers both the numerical and experimental analysis of innovative flexible aircraft, including commercial HARW aircraft and eVTOL platforms. He is also an Honorary Senior Research Associate at the University of Bristol and has published 10+ journal papers, a book chapter, and more than 15 conference papers.
